The Collage AI embedded tutor is a 24/7 digital teaching assistant with full, contextual awareness of your specific lessons, uploaded source texts, and textbook materials. You retain absolute authority over how it interacts - ensuring pedagogical alignment and academic integrity.

The most foundational decision is how the AI handles student inquiries. Toggle between two modes based on your learning objectives.

Socratic mode (recommended). The AI is strictly forbidden from revealing direct answers. It guides the student toward the solution using leading questions, contextual hints, and logical analogies. Best for formative learning, homework, problem-solving practice, and critical-thinking development.
Didactic mode. The AI provides direct, explicit explanations, definitions, and immediate answers when a student asks a question. Best for exam reviews, introductory terminology, quick fact-checking, or prerequisite mastery.
Strict courseware only. The tutor references only your uploaded materials, preventing students from sourcing external or unauthorized web answers.
Courseware first / general knowledge second. The AI defaults to your material but can safely pull external foundational concepts to fill baseline knowledge gaps.
